Karen (42) left school at 15 with few qualifications. Although she attended regularly, she felt the standard of teaching wasn’t very high, particularly in English and Maths.
When Karen’s children started primary school, she felt ready to get her education back on track. She enrolled on an Access course at her local college but although she enjoyed being back in learning, found the course too fast paced for her needs.
Karen contacted us to arrange to meet an adviser. Her confidence levels had fallen but she was still keen to develop her skills and continue learning. Karen discussed a range of course and career options with the adviser and they focused on qualifications that would suit her learning style.
We contacted Karen later in the year and she was pleased to give us an update on her progress. She is completing an Essential Skills Maths class in her local community centre and has nearly finished an NVQ in Health and Social Care at college. She also intends to enrol on a computer course in her local library and is much happier with her new learning path.
Karen said;
I’m still willing to learn with the hope of getting a full time job in the future. Thank you for your interest in me.
