During Tinnitus Awareness Week, Action on Hearing Loss in partnership with EGSA, organised a Health Fair for people who are deaf, hard of hearing or who have tinnitus. The fair was part of the Big Lottery funded Healthier Lives Project.
People who are deaf or hard of hearing can often miss out on important information because of communication barriers.
The aim of the Health Fair was to encourage attendees to begin to understand the importance of lifestyle, health and well-being and to empower them to gather relevant information. Information and services on offer included access to benefits, back care, fire safety, personal fitness and first aid. Free complementary therapy taster sessions were also available.
Roisin McGonagle, EGSA Guidance Adviser for the project, was on hand to give advice on learning opportunities.
The event was a really useful way of seeing the range of services that are available for anyone with a hearing loss. It was great to have interpreters at the event.

As a volunteer at the Health Fair I found this event very helpful and useful.
Deaf people need more events and information on things like this.
Well done to the organisers and staff.
Thank you for your comments Gerard, glad you enjoyed the event.
